Our Mission

The Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Veterinary Services branch prides itself in our keen ability to successfully maintain the health and Deployability of the human and K9 active duty members while providing preventative medical care for your pets.

Our Veterinary Service Mission is extremely diverse. Our mission is essentially divided into 2 parts: Animal Medicine and Food services. On the Animal Medicine side, our primary mission includes providing full service veterinary care to all Military Working Dogs (MWDs). They are our K9 war fighter and they are out in the war zone as we speak saving lives.

It’s our duty to keep them healthy and able to keep your war fighter safe so that they can one day soon come home. So we truly appreciate your patience when MWD procedures and emergencies may interrupt your pets care at our facility. Our mission not only services the MWD and his handler stationed at JB MDL and Lajes AFB in Azores, Portugal, but also many K9 and their Handlers from all over. Outside of our MWDs we are more than happy to offer you and your pets the best of preventative medical and disease control services. We are also improving and working hard to better serve our community. Thanks for your patience and support as we slowly but surely make improvements.
Concerning the Food mission we have the privilege of even ensuring all DOD food source is safe for you rs and your war fighter’s consumption. That mission cover the greater metropolitan areas of NY, NJ, and PA. This mission along with the MWD mission often keep your installation veterinarian very busy traveling these areas and on many TDYs. Please bare with us as we work to improve our availability for you are your pet’s needs.

Please note:  Only military veterinarians are authorized to perform surgery.  These services are very limited and wait time for these procedures could be in excess of six months.
