As part of Fleet Week, our Active Duty Military Personnel and their Spouse/Guest are being offered FREE tickets to a taping of “The Chew” in celebration of our Uniformed Military Men & Women.

The show has requested the military personnel attend in uniform and are requesting certain information in order to register for free tickets.

The Chew is a leap forward into a delicious new kind of talk show, they will be taping on May 23rd, 24th, 29th, and 30th.
Featuring celebrity chefs Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, lifestyle expert Clinton Kelly, and healthy living Daphne Oz.

UGT Youth Talent Show

Calling all the Youth ages between 6 to 18 who got talent!

On Wednesday, May 23, JBMDL Youth Programs invite moms, dads, brothers, sisters and friends to sing, dance, perform together in this family-oriented event. Contestants can enter in one of 6 categories; Children (ages 6 – 8), Pre-Teen (ages 9 – 12) Solo/Individual Act, Teen (ages 13 – 18) Solo/Individual Act (Instrumental), Teen (ages 13 – 18) Solo/Individual Act (Performance/Specialty), Group or Family (Group Act, Family Act, Parent and Youth, Husband and Wife). Participants must be of the same immediate family. 1st place Winner of each category video of our installation will be sent to US Air Force Headquarter to be judged at Air Force Level. You can be the one of the Top 3 winners to win prize money in FSS Gift Card that can be redeemed at most of the FSS facilities on any Air Force Bases.

Family Fun Day and Fishing Tournament

Family Fun Day and Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 19^th at Pickerel Lake from 10am-2pm.
Registration is from 9-10am, cast off time is 10am, and fishing will continue until 12 noon when judging concludes and trophies are presented.

Deep Sea Fishing on the Party Boat

Join us for a day of Deep Sea Fishing for Striped Bass and Blue Fish aboard the Fastest Party Boat in New Jersey, the 120 foot long Miss Belmar Princess. Trip is on Sunday, May 27. Costs are $60 for adults and $40 for children, and include round trip transportation, poles, and bait. Bring tip money for your catch that the deck hands will clean and Outdoor Rec (ODR) will provide the coolers for your catch. Must provide your own food. A galley is available on board the vessel as well. The trip departs ODR Building 6045 on Doughboy Loop at 5:00am, and returns no later than 4:00pm. Trip minimum is 6 paid participants and maximum is 24. Must be paid in full to reserve spot.

Army Soldier Show is coming to town!

The U.S. Army Soldier Show “I WAS HERE – The Life of a Soldier” will take place on Tuesday, May 22 at the Timmermann Center in Building 5441 on 8^thStreet. Sale begins Wednesday, May 23^rd on the patio of Building 123 at Lakehurst between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Plants must be pre-ordered by Friday, May 18^th but we will have a variety of select colors to pick from on the day of the sale.

Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus DRAGONS

The show is on Saturday, May 19 at 11am at the Sun National Bank Arena in Trenton.

Reserved Lower Level seating ticket is $21 each, and all children ages 2 and up are required to have a ticket.
Also, your tickets include access to a one-hour Pre-Show at 10:00am!

New Egypt Area Bike Ride

Join our bike guru on a little local excursion around the New Egypt area and see what is in your own backyard! This trip is targeted at the beginner riders, but others are welcome!! This bike ride will average 14-16 mph, and cover a total 25 miles.

The Trip is on Saturday May 19, and leaves at 9:00am from Outdoor Recreation (ODR) Center in Building 6045 on Doughboy Loop. Cardboard Boat Regatta

This 1st Annual spectacular event is a Boat Race where crews design, build and race a human-powered boat made of cardboards. Bring out your family, friends and fans to cheer you on! Crews must have at least two but may not be more than six. Compete in Crew Spirit, Unique Theme, Fastest Boat, and “The Titanic” categories. First place trophy will be issued to the winner of each category.The event will be held Saturday, July 14 at Willow Pond located at the corner of 8^th Street and Texas Avenue, and is from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The entry fee per boat is $20 and will include the Regatta packet. The Regatta packet will consist of Boat Construction Guidelines, Liability/Hold Harmless Waivers, and Contestant Rules/information. Crews must provide all the materials to construct their cardboard boat. Upon sign in at the event, each “mate” will receive a $15 FSS Gift Card. Each participant will also have the opportunity to win one of three Kindle Fires! Trophies will be presented to the contest winners.

Registration Forms are available at Outdoor Recreation/ITT, Tommy B’s Community Activities Center or DOWNLOAD IT HERE.

Once complete the forms must be turned into Outdoor Recreation Center in building 6045 on Doughboy Loop along with the $20 entry fee.

“Text a Librarian” Service Launched

“Text a Librarian” Service has launched on May 1.

Responding to the popularity of text messaging, troops and members of the military community at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst can now ask questions and get information from the FSS Library by text message.

For patrons who are unable to ask a librarian in person or online, or those who simply prefer texting over talking, the “Text a Librarian” service provides a convenient option for getting info on their mobile device from the professional reference librarians at the Joint Base.

The new service provides an easy-to-use interface for our librarians and maintains the privacy of our patrons’ information. All the questions and answers will be kept as an anonymous ID without the phone numbers for an archive purpose only.

Annual America’s Kids Run

In honor of Armed Forces Day, the event not only exercises the body but is also challenges the mind, and strengthens the community spirits. Child obesity is at epidemic trends, and there is no greater need in our society than a proven successful children fitness program. National Community Program at JB MDL supports all families, youth, and fitness as part of Armed Forces Day activities on military installations in the US and overseas. This is a free event, and open to all FSS/MWR eligible Military Dependents ages 3 -18 years. Register online at www.americaskidsrun.org or on-site from 9:00am to 10:00am.

Brand New Batting Cages Open at John Mann Recreational Park

John Mann Recreational Park, located in building 6057 on Doughboy Loop, is a great spot for family get-togethers, picnics, parties and your place to go this season for all sorts of recreational activities including *brand new batting cages, mini golf, go kart rides and wide open spaces for sports and activities. “Million Dollar Quartet” Musical Show Trip

Join us on a bus trip to go see the “Million Dollar Quartet” Off-Broadway Musical Show!

On December 4, 1956, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever! Million Dollar Quartet brings that legendary night to life, featuring a score of rock hits. The musical captures the singular moment when four major talents came together to become a red-hot rock ‘n’ roll band.

The bus will depart on Thursday, July 19 from Building 123 on Severyns Rd at 2:00pm and from the Commissary Parking Lot on Broidy Road at 3:00pm for the 8:00pm Show allowing time for dinner on your own in Manhattan. Cost includes reserved Orchestra Seat and transportation for just $90 per person.

Tickets go on sale at both ITT Offices on Doughboy Loop and Severyns Road to JB MDL Active Duty Military Personnel at 10:00am on Tuesday, May 1.

Tickets go on sale to all eligible patrons at 10:00am on Wednesday, May 16.

Clementon Park and Splash World in Clementon, New Jersey held Military Day to recognize our U.S. Service Members and their families offering discounted package price.

Military Day is on Saturday, July 21.

Price includes One-Day Admission to the Park and Water Park and a 5-Hour Classic Picnic from 12:00pm to 5:00pm featuring Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Garden Salad, Soda and for the last hour Ice Cream Novelties. Patrons can leave and return to the Picnic during the hours.

Army Arts and Crafts Contest 2012

The Army Arts and Crafts Contest will be open for entries May 1 – June 30, 2012. The contest is an annual, juried competition of two and three dimensional artwork held in separate groups for novice and accomplished artists and artisans. The contest is open to ALL AUTHORIZED MWR PATRONS. The Arts and Crafts Contest Entry Form (profile), contest rules, and additional information can be obtained at www.armymwr.com. Entries must also be furnished as digital image files in JPG format.

Joint Base Neighborhood Block Parties have begun again this year.

Plan one in your housing area, and let us help you with the event. We will provide the paper products and a voucher toward rentals at Outdoor RecreationCenter (ODR) on Doughboy Loop. All you have to do is invite your neighbors and enjoy the day. Call us now and reserve the date for your neighborhood. Parties begin in May and run through October. We would like to make sure all neighborhoods on the Joint Base installation will participate this year.

FREE Bus Trip to Philadelphia!! Round trip motor coach transportation only included for free. Everything else on your own!

On Saturday May 26, arrive at 9:15am for a 9:45am departure into the Philly. Bus departs from Outdoor Recreation (ODR) Building 6045 Doughboy Loop, and drops off at Dave & Buster’s. Bus will pickup from Dave & Buster’s at 6:00pm for a 6:15pm departure returning to Outdoor Recreation Center building not later than 7:30pm. No food or beverage allowed on the bus.
