Outdoor Recreation at JB MDL Dix
Open 7 days a week, Outdoor Recreation (ODR) on Doughboy Loop offers many unique opportunities to the JB MDL community. Customers can rent a pavilion for unit organizational days, BBQ’s or family picnics. Passing through the area with a R.V.? Why not stay at Willow Pond Family R.V. Campground. John Mann Park and Laurel Pond Closure: As of 2/16/2018, John Mann Park and Laurel Pond community playgrounds located on JB MDL Dix will be closed until furthers notice. Closures are due to the age and deterioration of the playground equipment that will require them to be upgraded or repaired. For those in base housing, there may be playgrounds provided in neighborhoods. There is also a newly renovated playground known as Wacky World, located on JB MDL McGuire behind the Base Theater that is also available to the JB MDL community for use. Updates on the affected playgrounds will be provided as they become available.

Sold out - Long Beach Island Parasailing Trip
Enjoy an experience of a lifetime! Soar high above New Jersey’s famous Long Beach Island and its beautiful beaches as you gently glide up to 500 ft. above the coastline. Trip for ages 6 and up, maximum of 22 participants for this trip. Recommend wearing a t-shirt and swim trunks for flight as you may get wet. All food is on your own, there will be a time for you and your family/friends to eat lunch at LBI. There is also time for you to walk around or either shop or relax on the beach (fee to use). Detailed trip information provided at time of registration.

Sold Out - Skydive Tandem Trip
Attention adrenaline junkies! Always wanted to skydive? Join us for another "Ultimate Adventure" trip to Skydive Cross Keys. During a tandem skydive, you are securely fastened to your tandem instructor. After a training session with an instructor, we’ll climb to 13,500 feet (2.5 miles) above the ground with a full view of the Philadelphia and Atlantic City Skylines. Experience a 60-second freefall before the parachute is deployed. After enjoying the beauty, serenity, and thrill of the view under a parachute, you will then work with your instructor to fly the parachute back for landing. Must be 18 years, cannot exceed 220lb weight limit to participate.

DCAM Program Pre-Season Hunting Brief
DCAM (Dix Cantonment Archery McGuire) Hunting Program Brief limited to active duty military and full time civilian DoD employees assigned to JB MDL only.
Educational Disc Golf Experience Community Day
Take part in a brief instructional program and introduction to disc golf fundamentals; staff will explain rules, give tips on disc throwing, and get you started in a fun, new activity. Afterwards, challenge yourself and others to compete in a round at our disc golf location at Laurel Pond.
Free to participate but registration is recommended.
Delaware Water Gap Backpacking Trip
Mandatory Pre-trip meeting Tuesday, October 2, 5:15pm-6:15pm at 87FSS ODR.
$25 for Active duty members; $35 for all other DoD ID holders. Active duty priority September 2 thru 8; open to all other DoD ID holders thereafter. Must be signed up and paid before October 1.
Join FSS for a multiday backpacking trip in the Delaware Water Gap along the Appalachian Trail. This trip will include 3 days of hiking and 2 nights of primitive tent camping.
Indoor Climbing Night/Belay Clinic

Fall Foliage & NYC Schooner Sailing
Active Duty/Family Member priority September 16-22; open to all other DoD ID holders thereafter. Need to be signed up prior to October 16.
Set Sail with FSS aboard the 80ft 1890’s Schooner “Adirondack” as we cruise along the NYC skyline and admire Fall’s changing colors. We will be setting sail from Chelsea Piers NY for the 3.75 hour sail viewing the Hudson River north of Fort Lee NJ, going under the George Washington Bridge, passing the Palisades with picturesque breathtaking cliffs while admiring the orange, gold, and brown leaves along the Hudson River during peak leaf foliage season.

FSS Outdoor Recreation charters the 70' Skylarker fishing boat for an exciting day of fishing for whatever the mighty Atlantic has to offer! Bring tip money for the mate and FSS ODR will provide the coolers for your catch. Personal plastic coolers are okay and participants must provide their own food/drinks.

Single Service Member “Brews and Hatchets Tour”
Tickets on sale Saturday, 9am September 1 to Single Service Members. Open to all DoD ID holders September 8.
Kick off Oktoberfest with an ODR sponsored Brewery tour and testing your aim at hatchet throwing. We will visit 2 local breweries (River Horse and Flying Fish) where we will tour the facilities and brewing process, sample a few beers, opt to make purchases, and socialize over snacks. Afterwards, we will head to “Bury the Hatchet” in Cherry Hill to try your hand at the social sport of axe throwing.

HUNTING OI / SAFETY BRIEFINGS AT JB MDL
Persons interested in hunting on JB MDL must have a valid NJ state license and attend the corresponding orientation/safety briefing for the section they wish to hunt. 1. Dix Cantonment Archery McGuire (DCAM) 2. Dix Range Area (DRA) 3. Lakehurst (LKE) Once the appropriate briefing is attended, the required JB MDL hunting permit may be purchased. Recurring Thursdays thru January 2018, 11am - 12pm. Anyone wanting to hunt the on-base DCAM section of JB MDL must attend a briefing to be authorized to purchase a permit. Located at 87FSS Outdoor Recreation, Bldg. 6045 Doughboy Loop, JB MDL Dix. Free and open Active Duty Military and permanent federal employees assigned to JB MDL. Contractors and retired military personnel are not authorized to participate.
Dix Range Area (DRA) Hunting OI/Safety Briefing
November 1, 11, 15 & 25 at 6pm. Anyone wanting to hunt the DRA section (JB MDL Dix Training / Range areas) of JB MDL must attend a briefing to be authorized to purchase a permit. Located at 87FSS Rod & Gun Club at Range-14, JB MDL Dix. Free and open to Active Duty Military and general public. Any Active Duty and family members new to JB MDL or returning deployment or TDY that could not attend pre-season briefings may contact 87FSS Rod & Gun Club, 609.562.4676.
Lakehurst Hunting OI/Safety Briefing (LKE)
Active Duty Military may contact Natural Resources office to schedule a briefing. Anyone wanting to hunt the JB MDL Lakehurst section (Training areas) of JB MDL must attend a briefing to be authorized to purchase a permit. Free and open to Active Duty military, Retired Military, and DoD ID Civilians. Any Active Duty and family members new to JB MDL or returning deployment or TDY that could not attend pre-season briefings may contact 87FSS Rod & Gun Club to schedule a briefing. ODR rents everything from canopy and camping tents to tables and chairs, inflatable bounce houses and sumo suits, canoes/kayaks, mountain bikes and skis/snowboards, dunk tanks, charcoal or gas grills and the list goes on.
Need space to store a recreational vehicle? ODR manages 355 R.V. storage spaces for any type of vehicle.
ODR also offers adventure trips such as skydiving, horseback riding, deep sea fishing, canoeing/kayaking, downhill skiing/ snowboarding, and much more. Both day and overnight trips are offered. Inquire about setting up a trip for a unit, family or group of friends; we will accommodate your needs. ODR also offers annual special events such as a Kiddie Trout Fishing Derby on the opening day of Trout season in April and a FSS Family Campout night the second Friday in August.

The Outdoor Recreation boasts wide variety of items available for rent on a daily, weekends and weekly basis. Planning a party? Get your tables, chairs, canopies, and grills at a fraction of the cost of outside-the-gate rentals.
Planning a camping trip or going canoeing?
ODR at JB MDL Lakehurst has canoes, kayaks and jon boats along with camping gear, tents, coolers and more. Wanna play? Tennis rackets, footballs, soccer balls, softball equipment, horseshoe equipment and more are all available for rental.
ODR at JB MDL Lakehurst is open to all JB MDL ID cardholders and is located in the Fitness Center Building 123 on Severyns Road.
